Anyone is invited to the Alton Pride Meeting set for Monday, November 17, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room on Mill Street.
Alton is a proud community with a rich heritage. We have a winning attitude – after all, we WERE the first town in Osborne County! Couple that attitude with a can-do spirit and PRIDE, and you get a community like Alton that strives to replicate its proven standard of
excellence.
In 1925, a group of Alton ladies declared that their fair town needed a city park. In true pioneer spirit, they rolled up their sleeves and soon empowered others to follow suit. Thus, the community had a respectable park to enjoy.
In 1983, descendants of that 1925 generation of feisty Alton ladies took a look at the city park and didn't like what they saw. After nearly 60 years of wear and tear, the park was clearly in a sad state of affairs, and somebody needed to do something about it. Leave it to the women to get things done! Volunteers were mobilized, and the park was saved, and the community was served notice that the ladies intended to continue their crusade to improve Alton when they joined Kansas PRIDE in 1985.
